Have you ever noticed the things around at your home? Carpets, clothings, plasic bottles, melanine dishes, bathroom curtain, your toys and other materials made up of plastic. All these things are made up of a common material called polymer.

A polymer may be defined as a high molecular weight compound formed by the combination of a large number of one or more types of small molecules of low molecular weight. The small unit(or units) of which the polymer is made is known as monomer(or monomers). Many polymeric substances occur in nature such as Cellulose, Starch, rubber, proteins and resins. Polymers can be both- Natural and Synthetic. Natural polymers are obtained from vegetable sources as well as non-vegetable sources.
